Xylophones come in a range of sizes and colours. An important distinction that is often overlooked by toy manufacturers and toy stores is that true xylophones have bars made of wood. Instruments with metal bars are not strictly xylophones but glockenspiels or metallaphones. These instruments are labour intensive to produce in that every wooden bar must be tuned by hand.  For parents looking for quality well tuned xylophones the rule is that the more you pay the better the tuning.
